Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the gastric cancer screening and related factors in rural residents.
Methods: The subjects of the study were 190 residents over 40 years of age living in J-gun, a representative rural area of ??Jeollabuk-do. The sociodemographic characteristics, health behaviors and health beliefs (perceived sensitivity, perceived disability) and self-efficacy were measured as factors related to the early screening of gastric cancer. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, ¥ö©÷ test and logistic regression using the SPSS Statistics 23 program.
Results: The bivariate analysis showed statistically significant differences in age, place of residence, regular visits to doctors, perceived disability, self-efficacy, and the screening for gastric cancer. Logistic regression analysis showed that the gastric cancer screening was 6.754 times higher in those 40-49 years of age (‰ <.001) and 2.701 times higher in those 40-49 years of age than 50-59 years (‰ = .039).
Conclusion: There is a need for education that can reduce the barriers to early screening of gastric cancer and improve self-efficacy among rural residents. More systematic health policies and national support are needed, taking into account age and location of the region.
